Batoul S’Himi. Work 2007 – 2008.
Batoul S’Himi’s work with objects returns to her participation in the exhibition-building site. “L’objet désorienté au Maroc (The Disoriented Object in Morocco),” curated by Jean-Louis Froment at the Musée des arts décoratifs in Paris in 1999 and at the Villa des arts in Casablanca in 2000.
Experimenting with this series (pressure cookers) took place in Martil, Morocco, in August 2007 during a workshop for young Moroccan artists led by artists Seamus Farrell and Faouzi Laatiris at L’espace 150 x 295 cm in Martil. Batoul S’Himi exhibited this work for the first time at ESAV in Marrakech for the exhibition, “L’appartement 22 Rabat/Marrakech,” curated by Abdellah Karroum in November 2007. This work is both engaged feminist object and sculpture with its function inverted and S’Himi’s proposing of a new sense of transformative action of the social reality.
